Extreme Package ContentsThis article sums up the Pros and Cons of the Extreme Vaporizer, the vaporizer market's most versatile model.  It also goes into detail about the different components of the system, cleaning, as well as some useful tips and tricks.  We at VapeNow.com hope you find it helpful and informative.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Moderately efficient.
  • Can be used as both a direct inhale and a balloon-style system.
  • Tons of bells & whistles – the market’s most versatile vaporizer.
  • Manufactured with toxin-free materials.
  • Excellent customer service from Arizer.

Cons:

  • Bags do not have a cap.
  • Can vaporize many different ways, but isn’t the best available at any single option.

THE BOTTOM LINE:  The Extreme vaporizer by Arizer is the most versatile unit on the market right now.  It produces bagged vapor as well as most other models on the market.  At a price point of $289, it is only $39 more than the herbalaire and still $150 less than the Volcano with Easy Valve.  However, it does much more than these other two units.  While the Volcano blows bags, and the herbalaire blows bags and has a direct draw system, the Extreme does much more:

  • Blows bags
  • Delivers whip hits with the user’s lung power
  • Delivers whip hits with the fan on

In addition to its versatility as a vaporizer, it has a lot of bells and whistles, such as:  ground-fx bottom light, remote control, three fan settings, Celsius and Fahrenheit displays, two and four hour sleep timer, the ability to turn the sounds and ground-fx lighting off, and a potpourri bowl to freshen the air.  It blows bags almost as well as the Volcano, but the valve and mouthpiece using the Extreme is much more of a hassle.  The Extreme delivers thick, satisfying whip inhales that rival all but a few whip/wand only units.  In the end, this vaporizer does more than any other model on the market today, but as noted before it is not the best in for either bag-style or direct-inhale vaporizing.

Components/Parts:

  1. Extreme Hot Air GeneratorHot Air Generator:
The Extreme hot air generator can be used either as a direct inhale whip-style vaporizer or as a balloon or bag style vaporizer.  Turn the Extreme on by pushing the power button on the unit or on the remote.  The digital temperature display lets you know when the unit has reached the desired temperature.  A red LED glows while it is heating up as well.  The unit warms up in about 90 seconds, but we found it to work better after twenty minutes of warm up time (although many vaporizers advertise warming up within a few minutes, the vast majority of them perform better with ample time to warm up the whole system, not just the heating element).  The bag system is a little more efficient than the whip system and is much easier to use for beginners.  The whip system is capable of delivering rich, thick vapor, but this takes some patience and practice.

Dimensions:  The Hot Air generator is 7.25" tall 6.25" in diameter at its base.
  1. Extreme Cyclone BowlGlass Cyclone Bowl:
The Cyclone Bowl is a glass container about the size of a tall shot glass, with a screen in the middle.  Tobacco or herbs are put inside the top half of the bowl and then the bowl is set into the hole on top of the hot air generator.  Be careful, the bowl gets hot!  The top quarter was cleverly covered with a black coating that minimizes the heat, but the bottom ¾ of the bowl still gets hot enough to burn hands.

Dimensions:  The bowl is 3.25" tall and 1" in diameter.

  2. Extreme Whip SystemWhip System:
The glass elbow adapter fits into the hole in the top of the bowl and connects to three feet of food/medical grade tubing, which in turn fits into the mouthpiece.  To use the Extreme as a direct-inhale-style vaporizer, simply inhale through the mouthpiece and tubing with long, slow, deep breaths once the Extreme has reached the desired temperature and sufficiently warmed up.  The unit comes with multiple mouthpieces that can easily be switched out of the tubing to make sharing easy.

  3. Extreme BalloonBalloon/Bag:
The Extreme comes with two pre-made bags.  The bags are easy to use, provide consistent vapor, and are bigger than the herbalaire bags but smaller than the Volcano bags.  The only drawback to the bags is that there is no cap or enclosure on the mouthpiece.  However, this is necessary for the mouthpiece to fit into the tubing, as well as a water pipe.  The Volcano has spoiled most vaporizer enthusiasts with its Easy Valve system, but that same system inhibits the Volcano bags from being easily used with some accessories.  If you need to close the bag and set it down, we suggest plugging the mouthpiece with some tissue or, as one user reported, use a hat from a Lego person.  It’s not a huge deal for most users.
  1. A Note on the Materials Used to Manufacture the Extreme:
"Wherever possible the strongest highest quality glass parts are used.  Why?  Glass is inert, toxin free ensuring in smooth, tasty vapor. " - Arizer

Quickstart (Direct Inhale):

  1. Plug in the Extreme.
  2. Set your desired temperature (between 190C and 260C – try 230C the first time) and wait for the digital display to reach it.  This usually takes about 90 seconds.  *Note – we recommend giving your unit a total of ten minutes to warm up before moving to the next step.
  3. Put loaded Cyclone Bowl into the hole on top of the Extreme.  *Note – grind before loading.
  4. Insert glass elbow adapter into the top of the Cyclone Bowl.  This adapter should already be attached to the tubing and mouthpiece.  Mouthpieces fit into the tubing and make sharing easy.  *Note – we recommend giving your unit another ten minutes to thoroughly heat up the entire system before moving to the next step.
  5. Inhale through the mouthpiece with long, slow, deep breaths.
  6. Turn the Extreme Off.
Note:  Don't worry if the red LED lights up during a run, it is just maintaining the correct temperature.

Quickstart (Balloon-Style):

  3. Put loaded bowl into the hole on top of the Extreme.  *Note – grind before loading.
  4. Insert glass elbow adapter into the top of the bowl.  This adapter should already be attached to the tubing and bag.  *Note – we recommend giving your unit another ten minutes to thoroughly heat up the entire system before moving to the next step.
  5. Turn the fan on with the remote control to either fan speed 1, 2 or 3.  Watch the balloon fill and turn the fan off once it has fully filled.  Detach the bag from the tubing and enjoy.
  6. Depending on the temperature and plant material type being used, you can extract as many as 4-5 balloons.
  7. Turn the Extreme Off.

Cleaning:

The Extreme has many parts that make up the whip and bag systems.  All these parts can be cleaned using isopropyl alcohol.  The Hot Air Generator does not need to be cleaned.  The tubing and glass pieces will, over time, collect some buildup.  This is normal for any vaporizer using a glass or tube path for the vapor.  It comes off easily with isopropyl alcohol.

Other Tips:

  • This unit is very versatile, so play around with the settings to see how you like to vaporize best.  With the three fan speeds, digital temperature selector, and both the whip and bag systems, the possibilities are many!
  • Preheat the unit a few degrees hotter than normal, but with an empty cyclone bowl. Pack some finely ground tobacco or herbs in the dome screen that is in the elbow joint. Place the elbow joint on the cyclone bowl and wait a couple of minutes. Then extract the vapor using either the whip or bag. You should get thicker vapor using less material!
  • Check out the ground-fx on the bottom of the unit.
  • The unit draws air from underneath.  If you are using the Extreme in the same place all the time, try to set it up on platform of some sort so it gets less restricted airflow.  We drilled a hole in a wood table that the Extreme can sit over, which promotes airflow.
  • Stir the contents between whip hits or bags to expose more/new surface area to the airflow.
That's all for the Extreme.  Thanks for reading. -- The VapeNow Staff
